My boys own Skylanders Giants and Skylanders Swap and are absolutely obsessed with them. I sat down once to play with my oldest and he got very frustrated with me and tried to explain "No mom you need a fire element bottom and water top." At this point in time I looked at him as if he went nuts. He then explained to me
"Mom Skylanders is a very serious game, not for someone who doesn't take it seriously...." Now I raised my eyebrow at him, this was border line attitude. He then told me "Well it is true, I don't try to write blog posts for you because I can't..... Maybe its best you just leave Skylanders to Quinn and me." Okay I busted up giggling at this point in time.
It is official people this mama doesn't have what it takes to play Skylanders, but my 2 little boys love the game. They go into GameStop together hand in hand and go right to the wall with all the Skylanders. They put a lot of time into planning which piece they need. My oldest even attempts to write it down so they remember.
Now there is a brand new way to enjoy the game in Skylanders Trap Team!

Review:
In Skylanders Trap Team the game is about battling, puzzle solving and exploring. In this new edition you try to catch released villains and have them battle for you.
It also has an entire new cast of Skylanders. Right now there is over 60 Skylanders to collect and 40 villains to catch. My son explained to me that you can level up your Skylanders, but not the villains.
You place your Skylander in the portal to bring him to life.
You than set up the traps and defeat & capture the villains so you are able to use them. The new Skylanders for Trap team each have their own unique powers and moves. They are made to be master trappers :). You can also use Skylanders from previous games, but from my understanding the Trap players will not work on the old portals.

It is made so 2 people can play or 1. And my kids claim it is fun either way! The graphics are really cool, my oldest is 6 (Will be 7 in soon) the game was perfect for him. Not to easy and not to hard.
From what I read you can buy Trap Team for several devices PlayStation 3 and 4, Xbox 360, Wii, Wii U, Tablet, Xbox One and the 3DS.
The portals are not universal. It I have a portal for PS4 that is the only device it will work on. The figures work on all the portals.
My only complaint is the money involved! I need to buy special Skylanders to do certain things and I also need to buy certain element traps to catch different villains. This is why it was a huge plus to be able to use past game pieces.
I asked my little guy a few questions, he told me since he left me try and play I need to interview him for my blog lol
So here are a few question and answers for Brandon Jr :)
Q) Is the game fun, why?
A) Yes, because you get to catch villains, I really like trapping them. Trapping them is my favorite part. I like you can play as a Skylander or a villain.
Q) Is it challenging?
A) Yes, but not to hard, Quinn can play (My 3 year old)
Q) What do you think of the new Skylanders?
A) I think they are cool and I like that they have new moves.
(I went to mention here that I am impressed how durable they are! My kids have been dropping their Giants for a long time now and they have never once broke!!)
Q) Is it better as one player or 2?
A) It is good both ways, I like 2 players because I like playing with Quinn (Again my 3 year old :).)
Q) Do you enjoy using existing characters (Swap and Giants) to play?
A) Yes, but they are not as good as the Tram Team. You need the Trap Team to play better
Q) What would you change about the game?
A) I wish my mom would buy me more pieces.
We ending the interview there, since at that point in time he started asking if we could get another Skylander lol.
My 3 year old does play with his brother. I wont fib it is more him just following Brandon around. Unlike with me Brandon never gets mad at him and if anything has a lot of patients and is really trying to teach him to play.
This game gets thumbs up from me for being fun, challenging, creative and good clean fun!
