Each night before bed I read parts of the Bible for my boys. Sometimes we read 20 pages our times we only read a page or 2. They are 5 and 8 so it really does depend on their attention span that night. They love it though and sometimes we will only read a few sentences before the questions start. I am not pastor, but I try my hardest to answer them. I love this time with my boys. I love sharing God's word with them.
We have a few Bible, it is nice at Church for us to each have our own to follow along. Plus mine has sticky notes everywhere and I don't want the boys moving those. We never had a family Bible. And for this post I was able to review one. All I have to say is if you are like me and enjoying sitting down with your family to read God's word you so need one!
Here is why:
There is photos, for a 5 and 8 year old that made a HUGE impact. They like hearing the words, but at that age seeing them is a lot funner. Plus the photos are detailed in a way Children will enjoy them. My favorite was David and Goliath. My boys were shocked to see how much bigger Goliath was compared to David. We got to enjoy the Bible as a family in a whole new way.
At the end of section there is some questions you can answer as family. And a key verse, we have been having fun memorizing them and saying them the next night.
For me this was great, it got everyone more involved. The boys really listened to the stories, because they wanted to be the one to get the question right. And I thought for sure my boys were just memorizing the key verse. Not really taking the words in and hearing them. I was wrong, my dad is sick and in a few months he needs to get a life saving operation. He needs to take medicine to get to that point. The medicine makes him sick. The other day he was saying "I can't do it anymore, I just want to give up, it isn't going to work." My 8 year old then said to him word for word. "Is anything too hard for the Lord?" we all looked at him shocked and then he followed up "Quit trying to do it alone poppop let God take over."
I wanted to cry!! Not only does he hear the words, but he really HEARS them! They make sense and he is using God's word in everyday life. As a mama this was one of my proudest moments.
