Lego's making memories

I have so many amazing Christmas memories growing up as a kid, but only a few bad.  I remember my brother and I would sneak up each Christmas morning and peak at our gifts before our mom and dad got up.  We use to try and get my younger sister up, but she was always afraid to get in trouble for being out of bed.  After we peaked, we would try to get my parents up.  They would never get up, so we would go out into the living room and watch the 101 Dalmatians Christmas special (MY mom lost that VHS TAPE!!  I was so mad lol)  I also remember the year I got a horse for Christmas, I spent the rest of Christmas outside with him.  But there were also the bad memories, my parents fought all the time.  And even though we always got "gifts" for Christmas there was no family time.  One of the worst Christmas was when my mom flipped out and left the house for a few hours.  In a temper fit my dad left too!  It was a very scared 12 year old me, a 7 year old Luke and an even younger Brittany.  I didn't know what to do, my brother had gotten a huge Lego set that year.  I decided to build the set with them.  Whenever I needed a piece I would tell them what color and to look for.  Sometimes I would mess up on purpose and let them help me figure out what I did "wrong."  That Lego set would have normally only took me 40 minutes to put together, but I dragged it out for 2 hour.
Every year after that my brother would get a Lego set and we would put it together.  It became a tradition.
I never knew if they remembered why we started it, they were kind of young.  It wasn't until my youngest son turned 6 and my brother got him his first "big kid" Lego set.  As my son sat their in awe, my brother winked at me and told my son we use to have a family tradition of putting together Lego sets on Christmas.  He then looked at me and said hopefully this one doesn't take 2 hours like that first set did.  I could tell by my brother's face what he was talking about.  He hugged me then and we restarted the family tradition of Lego building Christmas night!!  Now they still take 2 hours to build. Not because I am trying to keep 2 little kids calm, but because we are eating, watching Christmas movies and so much other stuff as we build!

My son is 10 this Christmas so it has been going on for a couple of years now.  This year I still didn't get our big set, but I did grab a few cool littler ones
