When we had kids, my hubby wanted them to love sports. When they were old enough, he signed them up for every sport imaginable. I on the other hand wanted my kids to love reading. I wanted to share my love of getting lost in a book and knowing what it felt like to have the pages come to life.
Thankfully we both had our dreams come true. My hubby spends most nights running our kids to practice and we spend almost every Saturday at some sort of sporting game. And at night before bed, we all sit down to read. Most times it is our own books, but every once in a while, I buy us an audio book and we sit together in the living room to listen.
And not only do I try to pass my love of reading onto my kids. I am soooooo that aunt that gifts books at holidays (I give toys too, but there is always a book.)
I adore Carla Osborne books. Her books are always fun and have beautiful photos to keep younger kids really engaged.
Pony Express
Gona is a young girl who helps out on her family farm. And even though there is always lots to do on a farm young Gona knows it is a wonderful place full of fun things to do. In Pony Express her brother and her go on an imaginary adventure where they pretend to be Pony Express riders trying to deliver mail.
Review
I love that this book promotes not giving up and always trying your best. Also, I thought it was sweet that Gona's older brother was willing to play with her. Even if she did have to bribe him lol. The story line was sweet, I did have to explain a few things to my boys. I grew up around horses so when the book talked about tack rooms or signaling the horse, I had to explain what that meant. The photos as always were stunning. And really helped to tell the story.
